And what is the use of a book, " thought Alice, "without pictures or conversation?

About This Quote

Alice in Wonderland is a book about a little girl who falls down the rabbit hole. This is very different from most children’s books. Alice has no idea where she is or how she got there. She doesn’t know what’s around her or what to do next.

So, she turns to books to learn about herself and the world around her. As Alice reads, she imagines that the characters in the book are real. She might imagine that Humpty Dumpty is talking to her or that Queen of Hearts has sent her an invitation to tea.

Having imaginary friends helps her pass the time, but before long, she wants real friends like Tweedles and Tweedledum. Eventually, Alice finds two talking animals who become her friends and help guide her through Wonderland.
